Context Labs, which builds data infrastructure for artificial intelligence, has secured a strategic investment from 22/x, an Abu Dhabi-based investment and incubation platform founded by the Al Nowais family. The two companies also signed a long-term agreement to establish Context Labs’ regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi and accelerate its expansion across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The deal covers deploying Context Labs’ AI data infrastructure in the region, including its AI Distillery platform for sovereign AI, and building industrial applications for sectors such as energy, utilities and critical infrastructure.

Context Labs ingests fragmented operational, technical and business data — structured and unstructured — cryptographically verifies it at the source, and keeps a tamper-resistant record with full lineage, so any AI model, agent or decision can be traced back to verified data. A library of sector-specific ontologies lets the platform scale across industries from energy and mining to logistics, pharmaceuticals and financial services, with the AI Distillery platform letting companies run AI models and agents inside their own data centers on their own verified data.

Founder and CEO Dan Harple said the partnership lets Context Labs work with leading regional companies across sectors, giving them infrastructure to own their intellectual property and AI while being able to demonstrate data integrity to partners, regulators and markets. 22/x leadership framed the deal as part of a broader push to help local industries adopt AI and build capabilities for a digital economy, with 22/x connecting Context Labs to sovereign partners in computing, data and industry and bringing in Emirati talent from the outset. Context Labs already has offices in Amsterdam, Cambridge, Houston and now Abu Dhabi.

Why it matters

The partnership adds to a wave of Gulf capital backing sovereign-AI infrastructure — platforms that let regional companies run AI models on their own verified data rather than depend on foreign cloud providers, a priority for governments across the GCC and MENA.
