Context Labs, which builds verified data infrastructure for enterprise and sovereign AI, has received a strategic investment from 22/x, an Abu Dhabi-based AI-native investment and incubation platform founded by the Al Nowais family. The two companies have also signed a long-term agreement to make Abu Dhabi the site of Context Labs’ regional headquarters, a step aimed at accelerating its expansion across the Middle East and North Africa.

The agreement pairs 22/x’s equity investment with a plan to deploy Context Labs’ data infrastructure — including its AI Distillery platform for sovereign AI — across the region, and to build industry-specific applications for sectors such as energy, utilities and critical infrastructure. Context Labs says its platform pulls together scattered operational, engineering and business data, checks its authenticity cryptographically where it originates, and keeps a tamper-resistant trail of where it came from, so any AI system built on it can be traced back to data that has been verified; its AI Distillery service then lets companies run that AI inside their own data centers.

“AI is only as good as the data underneath it, and enterprises have to be able to verify that data before AI can be trusted to act on it,” said Dan Harple, founder, chairman and CEO of Context Labs. 22/x, an outgrowth of the Al Nowais family’s Arab Development business, has focused on bringing automation, robotics and AI into industries it already serves, chiefly oil, gas and critical infrastructure; the firm says it will draw on its ties to the region’s compute, data and industrial players to help Context Labs grow from early UAE deployments into a wider footprint across the GCC and MENA. 22/x also said it wants the shift to create chances for Emirati nationals to build specialist AI skills rather than simply importing the technology.

Context Labs, incorporated in the Netherlands and grown out of MIT research, already operates from Amsterdam, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Houston; Abu Dhabi becomes its fourth office and its first in the region.

Why it matters

The deal gives the Dutch-incorporated AI infrastructure company a foothold in a region pushing hard on sovereign AI and data control, while giving 22/x a technology partner for the energy and critical-infrastructure sectors it already serves.
