Anthropic merges Claude chat and Cowork into one interface
Anthropic is merging Claude's chat and Cowork interfaces into one window and adding dedicated slide and document creation features.
Anthropic is merging the front ends for Claude chat and Cowork into a single interface, the company said, aiming to reduce confusion over which tab to use for a given task. The unified interface brings chat, Cowork, and Artifacts — Claude’s interactive workspace feature — into one window, and Claude Design, introduced in April for website and prototype design, now works anywhere inside Claude.
Anthropic said customers often struggled to pick the right tab for the right task before this change; with the new design, Claude automatically routes requests to the appropriate part of the app instead of requiring users to switch tabs or windows manually.
The company is also adding dedicated features for building presentations and documents. Users can ask Claude to create, edit, and present slides, and download the result as a PDF or PowerPoint file. With the new Docs feature, users can work alongside Claude to draft sections, ask questions, and comment on finished parts, then share the generated document or slides via a link and edit them from a phone. Users can also start a document on desktop and track its progress from the mobile app.
The new features are rolling out first to Claude’s Pro and Max plans, across web, desktop, and mobile, over the coming weeks; Anthropic plans to extend them to free and team tiers later. The update follows an upgrade to Cowork’s memory layer, which helps Claude retain user context across chats.
Why it matters
Collapsing chat, Cowork, Artifacts, and document creation into a single routed interface is Anthropic’s answer to a complaint common across AI assistants — that users have to know which mode or tool to pick before they can even start — a UX problem rivals like ChatGPT still largely leave unsolved.
