Bahrain's Beyon to reach three renewable-powered data centers
Bahraini technology group Beyon said a third data center will run entirely on renewable energy once Phase 5 of its Beyon Solar Park program is complete, adding about 2.5 GWh of clean power a year.
Bahrain’s Beyon Group announced an expansion of its sustainable data center portfolio at Gateway Gulf 2026, saying a third facility will be fully powered by renewable energy once Phase 5 of its Beyon Solar Park program finishes. The announcement, made in the presence of Beyon Group board chairman Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, marks the latest step in the company’s long-running investment in sustainable infrastructure.
Developed with Almoayyed Solar, Phase 5 represents an investment of roughly BD544,500, spans 14,000 square meters, and will add 2,292 solar panels for a total capacity of 1.5 MWp. Due for completion in the coming months, the installation is expected to generate about 2.5 GWh of clean energy a year and cut carbon emissions by more than 1,585 tonnes of CO2 annually. Once finished, it will bring Beyon to three renewable-powered data centers, expanding its sustainable digital-infrastructure capacity as demand for data, cloud services, and digital solutions grows.
Beyon’s solar program has also reached beyond data centers: in 2026 it completed Phase 4, extending renewable power to Total CX’s customer service center, which became Bahrain’s first sustainable call center. That follows a milestone announced at Gateway Gulf 2025, when Phase 3 let Beyon’s Tier III–certified Hamala data center run entirely on renewable energy — part of a multi-year program the company says is meant to raise renewable energy’s share across its infrastructure and help customers meet their own sustainability and ESG goals. Beyon Group CEO Andrew Kvalseth framed the expansion as evidence that data-center growth and sustainable power need to move together, saying reaching three sustainable data centers “reflects the scale and consistency of our investment in renewable energy.” Almoayyed International Group chairman Mohammed Almoayyed said the partnership continues to show how long-term collaboration can deliver renewable-energy infrastructure at significant scale, calling the Solar Park program’s successive phases evidence of a sustained commitment to clean power.
Why it matters
Beyon is tying its data center growth directly to new solar capacity rather than treating sustainability as a side commitment — a model other GCC operators scaling up compute infrastructure may face pressure to match.
