Amazon has added more than 100 shopping capabilities to Alexa ahead of the holiday season, turning the assistant into a tool that handles shopping logistics, not just questions about them.

Shoppers can now ask Alexa to build and check lists, add or remove items, and adjust how often a subscription ships — switching from monthly to every three months, for instance — plus update a delivery address or add drop-off instructions, and ask about Prime or Audible billing issues.

The update extends a year of AI shopping features from Amazon, including a shopping assistant and new-offer alerts. The company says use of such agentic features has grown eightfold since January, with more than 400 million people shopping through Alexa over the past year.

Why it matters

Rolling out the upgrade just before the holiday rush signals Amazon’s bet that letting Alexa handle subscriptions and deliveries directly — not just answer questions about them — keeps shoppers inside its ecosystem during its busiest selling season.
