Spotify no longer needs "on Spotify" with Siri on iOS 27
Spotify said iPhone users on iOS 27 can now ask Siri to play music or other content without saying "on Spotify," as long as Apple Intelligence is enabled and the device isn't in the EU.
Spotify said Tuesday that it’s now easier to use the app by talking to Siri on iPhones updated to iOS 27: users no longer need to specify “on Spotify” when asking Siri to play music or other content through the service’s apps. Instead, users can simply say what they want to hear — a specific track, album, podcast, or audiobook, a broader query like “play workout music,” or a request for a Spotify feature like “play my DJ.”
Siri’s voice control can also be used for things like requesting personalized recommendations, resuming podcasts, searching a user’s library, or creating a Prompted Playlist with AI. Spotify says removing the extra voice command makes hands-free listening feel more natural, letting users focus on what they want to hear rather than how to phrase a request so their preferred music app responds.
The feature works because Siri can now learn a user’s music app preference: if someone consistently uses Spotify, Siri will route audio requests to that app automatically. The new feature is available globally for users with an iPhone 15 Pro or later, outside the EU, if Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings.
Why it matters
Letting Siri infer which music app a user prefers, rather than requiring an app name in every voice command, is a small but telling sign of how deeply Apple Intelligence is being woven into everyday iPhone habits — and the EU carve-out is a reminder of how the bloc’s rules keep shaping which AI features ship there first.
