Spotify brings podcast revenue sharing to 35 countries this fall

Spotify is expanding its partner program for podcasts — which lets podcasters earn money from ad and Premium revenue sharing — to a total of 35 regions this fall. The new markets include Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. The program has so far run only in the US, Europe, and Australia, making this the streaming service’s biggest geographical expansion of the initiative to date.
Eligible podcasters will be able to earn revenue from both video and audio podcasts. Video impressions from Premium subscribers count toward payouts, as does ad-revenue share from free users who listen to a show. Spotify said podcasters remain free to distribute their shows on other platforms as well, and they keep all the revenue they earn separately from sponsorships — the partner program adds to that income rather than replacing it.
The geographic push follows a broader bet on video podcasts. Spotify said video podcast consumption on the platform has increased 140% since the feature launched in 2022, and total monthly payouts to shows have climbed by a third since January. Earlier this year, the company also loosened the bar for podcasters to start earning from video: creators can now apply with a minimum of three episodes online, 2,000 consumption hours, and 1,000 engaged audience members over the trailing 30 days. Spotify said that eligibility change alone increased consumption on participating shows by an average of 45%.
Why it matters
The expansion brings Spotify’s podcast monetization tools to several Latin American markets — Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and the Dominican Republic — for the first time, giving regional creators a new path to ad and subscription revenue as the company leans further into video.
