Shipt launches AI shopping assistant Ask Shipt
Shipt launched "Ask Shipt," an AI tool that turns prompts into customized, ready-to-buy carts for its same-day delivery customers.
Shipt, the same-day delivery platform owned by Target, is the latest delivery app to join the AI cart race. The company said Wednesday that its new “Ask Shipt” tool will help customers shop more intuitively, turning prompts into customized, ready-to-buy carts.
The launch follows a broader trend among delivery platforms: Instacart launched its own AI-powered grocery assistant, Clementine, the same morning, while Uber Eats and DoorDash have introduced similar AI assistants this year.
Shipt says users can ask the assistant to do things like “create a cart for my Saturday tailgate for 25 people and include some brunch items,” or “build a cart for easy school lunches and after-school snacks.” They can also upload a photo of a dish they saw online or at a restaurant, and the assistant will identify and add the ingredients to a cart, or ask for ideas based on a budget, such as a weeknight meal for a family of five under $35.
Ask Shipt’s launch follows the recent addition of other AI features on Target.com, including AI-powered photo search and customer review summaries, and other personalized shopping experiences. Ask Shipt is available now in the Shipt app and on Shipt.com.
Why it matters
As every major delivery platform races to add an AI shopping assistant within weeks of each other, planning — not just fulfillment — is becoming the new competitive battleground.
