Reddit launches a TikTok-style "For You" feed
Reddit is adding a TikTok-style "For You" feed alongside a community-only "Following" tab, joining Instagram, X and Facebook in embracing algorithmic recommendations.
Reddit has become the latest major social network to adopt a TikTok-style “For You” feed. Opening the app now presents two tabs, “For You” and “Following,” the company said Wednesday.
The recommendation-driven “For You” tab blends content from the communities someone already follows with posts the platform’s algorithm thinks they will like, pulling in conversations they might not have stumbled across otherwise. “Following” strips that out, showing only posts from subreddits a user has joined.
Reddit frames the shift as a way to build connection, participation and belonging. “This new feed experience is a first step in helping drive discovery that leads to something novel and relevant – an idea, a connection, a unique perspective, or even a new interest,” the company wrote in a blog post announcing the change.
The redesign puts Reddit alongside platforms where algorithmic recommendations already shape what users see, including Instagram, X, Threads and Facebook, which have each rolled out their own “For You”-style feeds. Reaction will not be uniformly positive: some people favor the tighter, subscription-only feed, and some who saw the new layout during Reddit’s earlier test phase have already complained. Reddit says switching between the two tabs is easy, and the app remembers whichever feed someone viewed most recently.
Reddit says the new feed setup is rolling out to users globally over the next few weeks.
Why it matters
Reddit folding an algorithmic feed on top of its community structure shows that even platforms built around user-curated groups now see more upside in AI-driven discovery than in subscriptions alone. It is the same bet Instagram, X and Facebook have already made.
