Pixel 11 lineup brings few hardware changes, much more Gemini
Google's Pixel 11 series keeps last year's hardware largely intact but leans heavily on new agentic Gemini features, from AI phone calls to a live-translation camera tool.
For the last few years, Google’s Pixel lineup has been a showcase for new AI features with few hardware changes from the previous year’s devices, and the Pixel 11 series follows the same pattern. This year’s phones add more Gemini features that complete tasks in the background, including a new Wispr Flow-like transcription feature, a live translation feature that works across content, and a camera feature that captures the right frames.
Google is pushing further into agentic AI: with Gemini, U.S.-based users can order groceries, book rides, or get coffee, and Gemini can call businesses on a user’s behalf for table reservations or appointments — users can take over or stop a task at any point and review transcripts of AI-operated calls. Over the next few weeks, a new slate of connected apps including Granola, Otter.ai, Wix, Ticketmaster, and Zocdoc will work with Gemini to get things done. Google also evolved last year’s “Magic Cue” feature to use Gemini, now surfacing suggestions like a dinner spot or show by pulling information from across a user’s apps. A dictation product called Rambler, announced in May to compete with Wispr Flow and Aqua, is making its way to Pixel phones, and the devices can now translate videos, podcasts, and voice messages into a target language. The “Circle to Search” gesture is now available directly in the camera, and a new accessibility feature uses Gemini to translate sign language into text.
On the camera side, a new “Magic Capture” feature picks the best frames out of hundreds captured between when a user starts and stops recording, turning video into photos as a byproduct, and auto-crops and unblurs the results. Google upgraded super zoom from 100x to 120x on Pro phones and from 20x to 30x on the base Pixel 11, and Pro phones get faster capture with “Instant Night Sight,” which takes 4.5x less time than the previous generation’s Night Sight.
All the new Pixel phones run the latest Tensor G6 processor, which Google says delivers 20% better power efficiency and 25% faster browsing, plus a new telephoto sensor that lets in 32% more light. The phones are available to preorder starting today with a base storage of 256GB. The Pixel 11 starts at $899, the 11 Pro at $1,099, and the 11 Pro XL at $1,299 — the same starting prices as last year’s 256GB models, though rising component costs pushed the top model’s price up $100 compared with the Pixel 10 XL.
Why it matters
Google is betting the upgrade story for smartphones has shifted from silicon to software agency — proactive, on-device Gemini tasks — even as component costs push hardware prices higher.
