Pinterest tests AI room-redesign tool called Restyle

Pinterest is launching Restyle in beta in the US and Canada, an AI feature that lets users redesign their rooms with furniture and decor from their own photos.

Pinterest is turning to AI to help users move from browsing product inspiration to actually visualizing what a redesigned room or a new piece of decor might look like in their own space. On Thursday, the company said it’s launching a new consumer-facing feature called Restyle in beta in the US and Canada, powered by Pinterest Intelligence.

Pinterest Intelligence is built on Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Nvidia Dynamo, combined with open-source models and technology Pinterest built itself, the company said earlier in the week. The underlying system is meant to improve Pinterest Assistant’s ability to handle visual search requests and turn people’s searches into signals for AI-driven discovery and shopping.

With Restyle, users can photograph their space and then test and compare different options directly in their own rooms by prompting the AI to add wall art, furniture, accessories, or other home decor — including items pulled from images they’ve saved on Pinterest — or to change the lighting, paint color, or plants. Users can also click on individual items in the room to swap them out, erase them from the image, or make further edits, or simply ask the AI to visualize the room in a different style entirely, such as “bohemian,” “industrial,” “whimsical,” or “dopamine.”

Restyling a room with AI isn’t a new idea — it has already become a popular use case for general-purpose AI assistants — but building it directly into Pinterest could let people do more with the images they’ve already saved for inspiration. By seeing saved items rendered in their own space, users may be more likely to actually buy them, closing the loop between pinning something and purchasing it. The feature was teased at Pinterest’s annual Pinterest Presents event, where the company also introduced new visual search ads, app-promotion features, and other advertiser tools. Restyle is currently available only as an early preview, with a broader rollout planned for next month.

Why it matters

If Restyle nudges even a fraction of Pinterest’s saved-but-unpurchased pins into actual sales, it would strengthen the case for AI visualization as a direct commerce tool rather than just a novelty feature.
