Mesh, Automattic's personal CRM, launches on Android
Mesh, the personal-relationship app Automattic acquired last year, is now on Android with widgets, split-screen support, and could tie more closely to sister app Beeper.
Mesh, the relationship manager and personal CRM acquired by WordPress.com parent Automattic last year, is now available to Android users. The app lets people privately visualize and track the people in their personal and professional networks, add notes to contacts, and get reminders to reach out.
On Android, Automattic customized Mesh to work with platform features like split-screen and pop-up views, letting users access it while working in other apps such as messages or email. The Android version also supports keyboard shortcuts for foldables and tablets, in-app search, home-screen widgets with Material You colors that match a device’s wallpaper, and real-time sync across devices.
Automattic’s broader plans could eventually tie Mesh more closely to Beeper, its all-in-one messaging app that connects users across platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, Signal, Messenger, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and Google Messages. The two products already interoperate to some extent — Mesh users can draft a text to someone through Beeper or click deep links to visit a Mesh user’s profile — and the company wants to add more AI features to make users of both products more productive. “We’re thinking a lot about how can AI help you be a better friend and have better work and personal relationships?” Mesh co-founder Zachary Hamed told TechCrunch in an interview earlier this spring.
Today, Mesh’s Nexus AI is in early access, letting users ask questions like who they know at a particular company, who lives in a certain city, or who has expertise in a topic. The company is also experimenting with a voice-based, hands-free experience and an improved business-card-scanning feature.
Personal information stored in Mesh isn’t shared or used for ad targeting, the company says, since the product is supported by subscriptions — free for up to 1,000 contacts, with paid tiers for unlimited contacts and other features. Currently, around 70% of Mesh’s customers use the app for some type of business purpose, though the company says it still designs for the consumer use case too.
Why it matters
By bringing Mesh — and its potential deeper AI and Beeper integration — to Android’s much larger global user base, Automattic is betting that AI-assisted relationship management can become a mainstream habit rather than a niche tool for well-connected executives.
