Levoit's new air purifier targets pet odors and fur
Levoit's $189.99 Vital Pet Pro Air Purifier targets pet fur and odors with a three-stage filter, cutting up to 70% of smells within an hour, per the company.
Levoit has launched the Vital Pet Pro Air Purifier, a $189.99 device built specifically for pet-owning households. Rather than functioning as a general-purpose air cleaner, it combines a three-stage filtration system with design choices aimed squarely at the two biggest complaints pet owners have: fur everywhere and lingering “wet dog” odors.
The filtration stack has three parts. A washable pre-filter catches larger debris such as pet hair, a main filter targets smaller particles and dander, and an activated carbon filter — packed with 140 grams of activated carbon — is designed to tackle odors specifically. The purifier also has a U-shaped air inlet, which Levoit says is built to capture airborne pet hair and particles, improve airflow, and help keep the filter from clogging.
After testing the purifier for a little over a week, TechCrunch found it effective at collecting fur and trapping the kind of debris that would otherwise end up floating around a room or settling on furniture. On odor specifically, Levoit says the Vital Pet Pro can remove up to 70% of smells within an hour; that precise figure couldn’t be independently verified, but the room did smell noticeably fresher once the purifier had been running. An automatic-cleaning feature also removes accumulated hair and debris from the pre-filter and deposits it in a removable tray, cutting down on manual upkeep.
The companion app adds two pet-specific modes. Auto Plus Mode monitors changes in air quality and adjusts performance in real time, while Pet Mode alternates between running the fan at its highest speed for 15 minutes — to capture particulates in the pre-filter — and a lower speed for 60 minutes, to maintain air quality while cutting noise and energy use. Instead of a numerical air-quality reading, the purifier displays a simple color code: red for bad air, orange for moderate, green for good, and cyan for very good.
A few caveats stood out during testing. The unit runs a little larger than expected, so buyers should check available floor space before ordering. Noise is also noticeable at the highest fan setting, though the purifier grows quiet enough to run overnight once it settles into a lower mode, and a dedicated Sleep Mode makes it quieter still for light sleepers. The Vital Pet Pro Air Purifier is available through Levoit’s website, Amazon, Chewy, and other retailers.
Why it matters
Levoit’s decision to build a single-purpose device around pet ownership, rather than a general air purifier, suggests appliance makers see more room to differentiate through narrow, well-defined use cases than through broader air-quality specs alone.
