FedEx orders 2,000 electric trucks from Harbinger in $300M deal
FedEx is ordering 2,000 electric trucks from EV startup Harbinger in a deal worth $300 million, with delivery expected by the end of next year.
Harbinger, which already has trucks in production, told TechCrunch it plans to deliver all 2,000 vehicles by the end of next year. It’s the largest bulk order yet for the company, which was founded in 2022 by former employees of Anduril, defunct EV startup Canoo, and Quantumscape. Bloomberg News first reported the new order Wednesday morning. FedEx previously led a $160 million Series C funding round for Harbinger late last year, and has already received 53 trucks from that earlier fundraising-linked order.
Harbinger’s pitch since its founding has centered on one main product: an electric medium-duty commercial truck chassis. That focused approach appears to be paying off, with the company already in production and generating revenue despite being only a few years old.
The company has also started expanding into other potential revenue lines. It is getting into hybrid emergency vehicles, acquired an autonomous-driving company in February, and is selling the battery packs it developed for use as energy storage. Harbinger is also moving into defense use cases. Axios reported in May that the company is considering an IPO.
Why it matters
The order is a bet from one of the largest fleet operators in the U.S. that a startup barely four years old can deliver commercial EVs at scale — a signal that could help Harbinger’s push toward a public listing.
