Doist, the company behind the Todoist application, has launched Todoist Ramble, a new feature that uses natural language processing to convert spoken audio into organized tasks. The tool is powered by Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI to handle real-time speech understanding. The feature allows users to describe their tasks using natural language rather than manual typing. As the audio streams to the back end, the model transcribes the speech and identifies tasks, dates, and other details. The app captures details mentioned during speech, such as project deadlines, priorities, duration, and assignees, and updates in real time. It also responds to edits and changes as the user speaks; for instance, users can direct the AI further by saying phrases like “Actually, make that Thursday” or “that’s all.”

Before its official release, the feature underwent testing. It was first tested with Todoist Experimental users, a group of around 150,000 active testers. Within this group, around 76,000 testers completed roughly 290,000 Ramble sessions on desktop and mobile before the feature entered public beta testing in November. During the testing phase, the task creation success rate improved from around 40% this past October to approximately 62% by December.

According to Doist, the feature has also driven business growth. New users on the entry-level plan who used Ramble upgraded to paid plans at a rate roughly five times higher than before. Addressing potential privacy concerns, Doist states that audio data is not stored or used for AI training. Additionally, the company notes that the application maintains SOC2 Type II certification, which is a security certification for service organizations.

Todoist Ramble is available starting today across iOS, Android, desktop, and web, with support for 38 languages. While beginner plan users can access the feature with a limited number of sessions per month, the Pro and Business paid plans offer unlimited sessions. For access, the feature can be used via a Home Screen or Lock Screen shortcut on iOS, and via app shortcuts, widgets, and quick settings tiles on Android.

Why it matters

The launch of Ramble highlights a broader shift in productivity software where natural language processing is replacing manual data entry, with Doist leveraging AI models to drive measurable user conversion.
