Consumer electronics company Jabees has launched the Peace Duo Under-Pillow Speaker, a hardware device designed to provide a private audio experience during sleep. Launched last month, the thin speaker uses bone conduction technology to transmit sound directly through a pillow to the user. By sending vibrations through the skull to the inner ear, the device allows individuals to listen to audio privately. This setup addresses common sleep-audio challenges, such as the physical discomfort of wearing traditional earbuds throughout the night or the disturbance caused by playing audio out loud when sharing a sleeping space.

The Peace Duo is priced at $59.99 and comes with several built-in features. It includes a micro SD card preloaded with four hours of soothing soundscapes, which feature options like gentle waves, light rain, rain with thunder, and soft wind. In addition to these preloaded tracks, the speaker offers Bluetooth connectivity, allowing users to pair their phones and stream their own preferred audio. The device’s battery life is rated to last up to 10 nights of use, based on one-hour listening sessions per charge, which eliminates the need for daily recharging. For portability and storage, the speaker features a foldable design and includes a magnetic fabric travel case. The device is available in Sunrise Yellow and Mist Green, and offers personalization options such as magnetic snap-on frames that can be swapped for custom images or personalized names.

While the device offers a practical solution for nighttime audio, it has clear functional boundaries. The author of the review highlighted the personal relevance of such sleep aids, noting that I’ve struggled with insomnia since I was very young. However, the Peace Duo will not cure insomnia. Additionally, the physical transmission of sound is highly dependent on the type of pillow used. Testing revealed that the device does not work well with thick memory foam pillows, as the dense material prevents the sound vibrations from passing through clearly. To resolve this, the reviewer switched to a regular cotton pillow, which allowed the sound to come through clearly. For its part, Jabees claims that thinner memory foam pillows should work fine with the device.

Why it matters

The Peace Duo offers a private, bone-conduction audio solution for sleep, addressing the discomfort of earbuds and the noise concerns of playing audio out loud. As consumer hardware increasingly targets personalized wellness, devices like the Peace Duo could signal a broader shift toward specialized, non-intrusive sleep-tech accessories that bypass traditional audio form factors.
