Startup Battlefield 200 applications close May 27

TechCrunch has set an application deadline of May 27 for its Startup Battlefield 200 competition, which will take place during the TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 event. The primary incentive for the selected participants is the opportunity to compete for $100,000 in equity-free funding. This funding is defined as capital that does not require the startup to give up any ownership or equity in their company, making it a resource for early-stage founders looking to scale without dilution. The application process is free, and the program aims to provide early-stage founders with an opportunity to gain investor exposure, media coverage, and customer growth on a global scale.

The competition is structured specifically for early-stage technology companies. According to the selection criteria, most selected companies are pre-Series A, which refers to startups that are in their earliest funding stages and have not yet raised a formal Series A round. However, select Series A startups may also qualify for the program depending on their specific circumstances. The program is open to global applicants across all industries, offering them a platform to showcase their products in front of 10,000+ attendees, including venture capitalists, corporate partners, and global media. To qualify, applicants must have a functional minimum viable product (MVP) and a clear product demo.

Out of the global pool of applicants, only 200 startups are selected to participate in the cohort. These 200 companies receive a package of benefits designed to maximize their visibility at the event:

  • A free exhibit table on the conference floor for all 3 days.
  • 4 all-access Disrupt passes for their team.
  • Direct access to investor networking, exclusive founder masterclasses, and media lead-generation opportunities.
  • Featured startup profiles in the event app and access to the press list.

From the initial cohort of 200, just 20 finalists are selected to pitch live on the main stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. These 20 finalists will present their products directly to panels of venture capitalists to compete for the final prize. The competition has historically served as an early launchpad for technology companies, with past participants including Dropbox, Discord, Fitbit, Trello, and Mint. These companies used the platform to gain early momentum before scaling into global businesses. The winner of the competition will join this group of alumni and receive the $100,000 in equity-free funding.

Why it matters

For early-stage founders, this competition provides a platform to secure non-dilutive capital and investor access on a global stage.
