Spotify brings interactive AI DJ to eight new markets
Spotify is expanding its interactive AI DJ feature to four new languages and eight additional countries, now reaching more than 75 countries.
On Thursday, Spotify announced a major expansion of its interactive AI DJ feature, introducing support for four additional languages and launching the tool in eight new countries. Prior to this announcement, the feature—which provides users with AI-powered spoken commentary alongside music selections—was only available in English and Spanish. This expansion represents a significant step in the company’s efforts to scale the feature to more than 75 countries.
With this rollout, Spotify is adding support for the following four languages:
- French
- German
- Italian
- Brazilian Portuguese
To accompany the linguistic expansion, the company is launching the AI DJ feature in eight new countries:
- Austria
- Brazil
- France
- Germany
- Italy
- Portugal
- South Korea
- Switzerland
Following this geographic expansion, the AI DJ feature is now available in more than 75 countries. To ensure the feature resonates with local audiences, the company has introduced distinct AI personalities with different names tailored to suit their respective languages:
- Maia
- Ben
- Alex
- Dani
These localized AI personalities provide spoken commentary tailored to each language, moving the feature beyond its original English and Spanish options. The company designed these distinct personalities to suit their respective languages.
This expansion builds on a previous update from May 2025, when the streaming service upgraded the AI DJ to allow users to chat directly with the feature. Under that update, users can make requests to change the mood or genre, or prompt the AI DJ to play specific tracks. This conversational capability allows the feature to operate similarly to general-purpose AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, but within the specific context of music streaming. Originally, the initial version of the AI DJ was limited to providing spoken commentary on songs while playing tracks that users would like. Over the last few years, however, the company has made continuous attempts to make the feature more interactive for its users.
In addition to expanding the AI DJ, Spotify has been introducing other artificial-intelligence features to its application. These updates include the ability for users to create custom playlists of songs or podcasts by simply describing what they want to listen to. This broader push into artificial intelligence reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to make its tools more conversational and interactive for users.
Why it matters
Spotify is doubling down on conversational AI to deepen user engagement, moving beyond passive listening to an interactive, personalized experience that competes with general-purpose AI assistants.
