This performance officially outpaced the human world record of 57 minutes, which was recently set by runner Jacob Kiplimo. The Associated Press reported that the winning machine was built by Honor, highlighting the company’s work in the hardware sector. The event served as a public demonstration of how humanoid machines are adapting to physical tasks like long-distance running, drawing direct comparisons between human and machine capabilities.

The competition featured a diverse field of entrants, showcasing different levels of operational independence. However, because the event utilized a weighted scoring system, the autonomous Honor robot was awarded the official victory despite its finish time of 50 minutes and 26 seconds being slower than the remote-controlled unit’s time.

The results of this year’s race mark an improvement over previous iterations of the event. In last year’s half-marathon, the fastest robot required two hours and 40 minutes to complete the course. At the time, the author of the original report remarked that such a duration would not have been considered an impressive time for a human runner. While the sub-hour finish this year represents a clear step forward for humanoid hardware, observers remain highly skeptical of comparing robotic running times directly to human athletic achievements. One social media user put the milestone into perspective by noting, “my car can outrun a cheetah too.”
