Remote hits $300 million ARR as AI drives efficiency gains
Remote surpassed $300 million in annual recurring revenue and became cash-flow positive, crediting AI adoption for a 50% increase in revenue per employee.
Remote, a payroll service provider based in Amsterdam, has surpassed $300 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) and became cash-flow positive. The company, which operates in the global payroll and compliance market, attributes these milestones to a 50% increase in revenue per employee after adopting artificial intelligence across the organization.
According to Remote’s CEO, Job van der Voort, the efficiency gains are driven by widespread AI adoption. The company has integrated AI into its engineering workflows, resulting in increased engineering output. Key efficiency metrics reported by the company include:
- A 50% increase in revenue per employee following the adoption of AI.
- More than 85% of all of Remote’s code is written by AI, according to van der Voort.
- An increase of more than 60% in the volume of contributions from its engineers.
Van der Voort actively uses the technology himself to build tools. “As we are talking, on the second screen of my laptop, I have five different Claude instances running, building different things — and some of those are for me, but a lot of them are for Remote,” he said.
Remote is now leveraging its internal AI experience to offer services and integrations. The company has introduced Remote Build, a service providing forward-deployed engineers—defined as engineers who work directly with customers and prospects—to help clients implement similar workflows. Additionally, the company launched Remote MCP, an interface based on the Model Context Protocol, which is a standard that lets AI agents securely interact with external software. This interface allows partner platforms like BambooHR and Workday to integrate directly with Remote’s payroll data. Van der Voort attributes the growth of Remote’s core payroll business, which grew more than 300% year over year, largely to these AI initiatives.
Why it matters
Remote’s performance offers a concrete data point on the real business impact of AI, demonstrating how a company can scale revenue and product surface area without proportional headcount growth.
