Nyne raises $5.3M to give AI agents human context
Nyne raised $5.3 million in seed funding to build an intelligence layer that helps AI agents understand human context across their digital footprints.
On Friday, Nyne announced it raised $5.3 million in seed funding to build an intelligence layer for AI agents. The round was led by Wischoff Ventures, a solo VC fund, and South Park Commons, an investment firm. The funding round also saw participation from several angel investors, including Gil Elbaz, the co-founder of Applied Semantics.
The startup, founded by CEO Michael Fanous and CTO Emad Fanous, aims to solve a key limitation of AI agents. These software programs are expected to soon start making autonomous purchasing and scheduling decisions on behalf of humans. However, Michael Fanous argues that these agents currently lack the necessary human context to make these decisions effectively. While Google holds a significant data advantage due to its exclusive access to users’ search histories and cross-platform activity, Fanous notes that this is a data advantage the tech giant will never share with external agents.
To address this, Nyne plans to deploy agents across the internet to analyze public digital footprints, combining data from social networks and other applications. This allows the startup to build a deeper profile of a user’s interests and behaviors. Michael Fanous, the CEO of Nyne, explained, “I can give them any piece of information about a person that could be useful to make the right next action.” Nichole Wischoff, the founder of Wischoff Ventures, views this capability as a massive market opportunity for consumer-facing companies deploying AI agents to reach customers, noting that it allows businesses to identify specific customer needs, such as pregnancy, to pitch relevant products as early as possible.
The technical challenge lies in connecting disparate data points. Currently, machines struggle to discern whether a person’s professional profile, social media activity, and public government records all belong to the same individual. By resolving these identities, Nyne aims to provide a context layer with greater precision for the world of AI agents. The startup’s leadership also relies on a unique dynamic: the co-founders, Michael Fanous and Emad Fanous, have a close working relationship. Michael Fanous noted that this relationship strengthens their commitment to the venture, explaining that it is often easy for co-founders to walk away when things do not work out.
Why it matters
Nyne aims to solve the problem of AI agents lacking the necessary human context to make autonomous decisions by providing an intelligence layer that analyzes public digital footprints. If successful, this approach could enable external AI agents to operate with the level of personalization previously restricted to major platforms with closed data ecosystems.
