Mobileye, which specializes in automotive computer vision and autonomous driving, announced on Tuesday at the CES conference that it has reached an agreement to acquire Mentee Robotics, a startup developing humanoid robots, for $900 million. The transaction, which has been approved by Mobileye’s board and its parent company and largest shareholder, Intel, is expected to close in the first quarter. The acquisition is expected to modestly increase Mobileye’s operating expenses in 2026 by a low-single-digit percentage.

The $900 million purchase price will be distributed as follows:

  • About $612 million in cash
  • Up to 26.2 million shares of Mobileye common stock

Amnon Shashua, the co-founder and president of Mobileye who also co-founded Mentee Robotics in 2022, is framing the acquisition as the beginning of “Mobileye 3.0.” The transaction represents a strategic push into “Physical Artificial Intelligence”—which refers to systems designed to understand context and intent and act in the physical world. By acquiring Mentee Robotics, Mobileye aims to apply its existing expertise in automotive autonomy to humanoid robots. According to Shashua, the combination of Mentee’s humanoid robotics technology and Mobileye’s automotive autonomy capabilities offers “a unique opportunity to lead the evolution of physical AI across robotics and autonomous vehicles on a global scale.” Mentee Robotics will continue to operate as an independent unit within Mobileye.

Mobileye is funding this expansion into robotics through its core automotive business, which maintains a revenue pipeline of $24.5 billion over the next eight years. This pipeline figure has grown more than 40% compared to January 2023. The company continues to scale its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) business, which is driven by its advanced vehicle autonomy and core advanced driver assistance technology. On Monday, Mobileye announced a customer win with a top 10 automaker to purchase 9 million units of its EyeQ6H-based Surround ADAS systems—with EyeQ6H serving as Mobileye’s next-generation chip for advanced driver assistance systems. Volkswagen Group also announced in March that it would use the chip. Mobileye now estimates the future delivery of more than 19 million EyeQ6H-based Surround systems.

Why it matters

Mobileye is leveraging its automotive autonomy expertise to enter the humanoid robotics market, framing the move as a strategic shift toward “Physical Artificial Intelligence” on a global scale.
