Meta launches new initiative to support small businesses
Meta is launching "Meta Small Business," a new initiative led by Dina Powell McCormick and Naomi Gleit to support entrepreneurship and AI adoption among tens of millions of entrepreneurs.
Meta is launching a new company-wide initiative called Meta Small Business, Axios reported on Wednesday. The effort represents a centralized push by the technology company to support entrepreneurship and drive the adoption of artificial intelligence tools across its platforms. The initiative will be led by Dina Powell McCormick, who serves as Meta’s president and vice chairman, and Naomi Gleit, the company’s head of product. By placing senior executives at the helm, Meta is signaling the strategic importance of this new organizational unit.
The creation of Meta Small Business is designed to build on the company’s existing commercial footprint. In a memo sent to staff, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted that small businesses have always been a big part of the company’s business model. Currently, tens of millions of entrepreneurs already use Meta’s platforms to grow and connect with customers. By formalizing this initiative, the company plans to expand its offerings and do more in the space to support these business owners.
The strategic focus of the initiative centers on the transition to artificial intelligence. Zuckerberg indicated that the technological shift should lower the barriers to entry for starting and operating a company. “In the AI era, it should be easier than ever for people to build new businesses,” Zuckerberg wrote in the memo. “We want to build the services that enable this. This is important for ensuring that people broadly share in the prosperity created by superintelligence.”
To build out the initiative, Zuckerberg has asked internal staff to participate in its development. Specifically, the CEO has invited product managers, designers, engineers, and other employees to reach out if they are interested in working on the new Meta Small Business project. This internal recruitment drive highlights the company-wide nature of the effort as Meta seeks to align its technical talent around AI-driven tools for small businesses.
Why it matters
Meta’s move signals a strategic effort to capture the small business segment by lowering barriers to entry for AI-powered entrepreneurship, positioning its platforms as the primary infrastructure for the next generation of business owners.
