Google Labs launches Dreambeans for daily AI-curated suggestions
Google Labs has launched Dreambeans, an AI-powered app for U.S. subscribers that curates a limited daily feed of lifestyle suggestions based on personal Google data.
Google Labs, the experimental product design team at Google, has launched Dreambeans, a new artificial intelligence-fueled application for iOS and Android. According to Gozde Oznur, the product lead for Dreambeans, the app uses data from various Google services to generate a curated list of AI-illustrated stories. These stories function as lifestyle suggestions, which may include places to visit, topics to explore, or upcoming events. Oznur stated that the app is designed as an antidote to doomscrolling—the act of excessive, mindless scrolling through negative news or social media feeds—by strictly limiting the number of stories provided to users each day.
To generate these suggestions, the app connects information across a user’s Google account. According to Google, “With your permission, Dreambeans uses Personal Intelligence to connect information from Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube and Search History, to curate a finite collection of daily stories designed to spark new ideas.” This “Personal Intelligence” is Google’s term for connecting data across its various applications. Oznur explained that the name of the app reflects this overnight process. The “dream” aspect refers to the system working through and distilling large volumes of data across connected apps while the user sleeps. The “beans” aspect represents starting the day with a freshly brewed cup of coffee, with the app delivering a concentrated drop of inspiration in the morning. Through this process, the app typically provides 10 to 14 stories per day, which can include geographical recommendations, insights based on calendar events, or curated web articles.
Currently, Dreambeans is only available to U.S.-based Google AI Ultra subscribers, which is a subscription service tier for Google users. The launch comes amid growing interest in tools designed to address phone addiction. For context, other startups are also entering the lifestyle suggestion space; for example, Bond is a startup that uses AI to auto-generate lifestyle suggestions for users.
Why it matters
Google is leveraging its vast ecosystem of personal data to create a “Personal Intelligence” layer, attempting to solve user fatigue by curating information rather than just aggregating it.
