Google launches Lyria 3 Pro music generation model
Google has launched Lyria 3 Pro, an AI music generation model capable of creating tracks up to three minutes long, rolling out across its consumer and enterprise platforms.
Google announced on Wednesday that it is releasing Lyria 3 Pro, a music generation model that arrives one month after the release of the previous Lyria 3 model. The new model will let users create tracks up to three minutes long, representing an increase from the 30-second-long tracks offered by its predecessor. The Pro model is rolling out in the Gemini app, but only paid subscribers will gain access to it. Google is also rolling out Lyria 3 Pro to Google Vids, its video editing application, and ProducerAI, a generative AI-powered music production tool that Google acquired last month.
For enterprise users, Google is adding the music generation capability to Vertex AI—Google’s enterprise AI platform—where it is currently available in public preview. The model is also rolling out to the Gemini API and AI Studio. Google emphasized that it trained the model using data from its partners, alongside permissible data from YouTube and Google.
The Lyria 3 Pro model offers better creative control and customization compared to the previous version. Because the model has a better understanding of track structure, users can specify distinct musical elements in their prompts, including intros, verses, choruses, and bridges. Google emphasized that the model does not mimic an artist. However, if users specify an artist in prompts, it takes “broad inspiration” from that artist to generate a track. To ensure tracking, all tracks created using Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro are marked with SynthID, a watermarking tool used to denote that AI was used to make the track.
This launch arrives as streaming platforms and artists navigate the rise of AI-generated music. Earlier this week, Spotify released new tools to let artists review songs released under their name. These tools are intended to prevent “AI slop creators”—producers of low-quality AI-generated content—from misattributing music. Meanwhile, Deezer has launched tools designed to let any streaming service identify AI-generated music.
Why it matters
The release of Lyria 3 Pro expands Google’s music generation capabilities across its consumer and enterprise platforms, including Gemini, Google Vids, and Vertex AI, while introducing longer track generation and improved structural understanding.
