Flipper Devices announced a new gadget called Flipper One today. The device, which is in development and currently in a concept stage, is not a successor to the Flipper Zero. Instead, it operates on a different layer than the company’s existing hacking device.

The Flipper One is designed with multiple network connectivity options and processing capabilities. Its technical specifications include:

  • An eight-core RK3576 chip running open Linux, paired with a Mali-G52 GPU and an NPU to run local AI models.
  • A two-core Raspberry Pi RP2350 microcontroller to power the display, buttons, touchpad, LEDs, and power subsystem.
  • 8 GB RAM.
  • Connectivity via 2x Gigabit Ethernet, USB Ethernet at speeds of 5 Gbps, and Wi-Fi 6E across 2.4/5/6 GHz frequency bands.
  • An M.2 port to connect a 5G modem or other hardware like Software Defined Radio (SDR) modules, AI accelerators, or SSDs.
  • An HDMI 2.1 port supporting 4K streaming at 120 Hz.

To support the hardware, Flipper Devices worked with open source software consulting firm Collabora to push the RK3576 chip’s support into the mainline Linux kernel—the official Linux kernel tree—allowing anyone to download and tinker with it. The company is also developing Flipper OS, a concept Linux-based operating system. Flipper Devices CEO Pavel Zhovner explained the motivation behind the new OS, noting that “while Raspberry Pi OS is fluid and he enjoys using it, it is hard to do a clean factory reset after installing packages unless you re-flash the SD card for a new project.” The concept OS will allow users to access profiles with preconfigured settings and return to a clean copy without swapping SD cards.

The announcement follows the commercial success of the Flipper Zero, which has sold over a million units and generated over $150 million in sales. While the final details of the consumer launch will be announced in the future, the Flipper One is likely to cost less than $350 for the base configuration without cellular modules.

Why it matters

Flipper Devices is expanding its hardware lineup with a new Linux-powered networking gadget, Flipper One, which aims to offer advanced connectivity and local AI capabilities for hackers and tinkerers.
