Six influencers exit FaZe Clan after failed contract talks
Six influencers are leaving FaZe Clan following unsuccessful contract negotiations, casting doubt on the future of the esports group.
Six influencers associated with the esports organization FaZe Clan have announced their departures from the group following unsuccessful contract negotiations. The departing content creators—Adapt, Jason, Ronaldo, Lacy, Rage, and Silky—comprise the entire roster listed on the FaZe Clan website. The mass exit represents a major disruption for the brand’s public-facing lineup. Adapt, who spent 14 years as part of FaZe Clan, expressed the emotional weight of the decision on the social media platform X, noting that he had spent over half of his life with the group and that while the departure was painful, it was necessary.
The influencers had reportedly been in contract negotiations with FaZe Clan investor HardScope and the company’s CEO, Matt Kalish, for the past half year. Despite these discussions spanning half a year, the parties were unable to reach mutually agreeable terms, leading to the decision by all six influencers to leave the organization. Kalish has indicated plans to continue operating the group without the departed influencers, though he claimed that the organization’s current financial structure is unsustainable. Commenting on the departures, Kalish stated that his best guess was that the influencers are good kids who are confused and have many people advising them.
The mass exit follows a highly turbulent period for the corporate entity. FaZe Clan went public in 2022 through an Initial Public Offering (IPO), but faced severe financial headwinds. The following year, in 2023, the company was acquired by GameSquare for $17 million, a transaction that resulted in the firing of its chief executive. The relationship between the organization’s corporate management and its creative talent has long been strained. Reflecting on the internal culture, an unnamed former FaZe Clan member who left the group in August described the environment as one where they had “no control, and it’s like we’re puppets.” This mass departure highlights the divide between the creative talent and the corporate management, which includes acquirer GameSquare and investor HardScope.
Why it matters
The mass departure of FaZe Clan’s core talent following failed negotiations with new management signals significant instability for the brand. The exit highlights the ongoing difficulty of balancing corporate governance with creative talent, especially for an organization that has struggled to find its footing since its 2022 public listing and subsequent acquisition.
