Facebook Marketplace adds Meta AI for automated seller tools
Facebook is integrating Meta AI into Marketplace to automate seller tasks, including drafting listing descriptions, suggesting prices, and generating auto-replies to buyer inquiries.
On Thursday, Facebook announced the rollout of new Meta AI features for Facebook Marketplace, introducing automated tools to help sellers manage listings and communicate with potential buyers. The primary update is a feature that automatically replies to messages from interested buyers. When a buyer inquires about an item’s availability, Meta AI can automatically draft a reply using information directly from the seller’s listing, such as the description, availability, pickup location, and price. Sellers can choose to enable, preview, and edit these auto-replies during the listing creation process.
The update also introduces automated listing creation, profile transparency features, and expanded shipping options:
- AI-assisted listings: Sellers can now list items automatically using Meta AI. After a seller uploads an image of an item, Meta AI can create a draft listing, fill in the details, and suggest a price based on similar items in the area.
- Buyer-facing profile summaries: Buyers will now see a summary of a seller’s Facebook profile at the top of their Marketplace page. This overview includes how long they have been on Facebook, their number of friends, and a summary of their Marketplace activity, such as listing history, the types of items they sell, and their seller ratings.
- Shipping tools: Sellers can now expand their reach by offering shipping on their listings. The platform allows them to generate prepaid shipping labels and easily track every order from a simple dashboard.
These features are designed to address a common pain point for sellers, who often do not want to spend excessive amounts of time responding to initial or redundant messages, such as asking if an item is available when it is already marked as available. The demand for automation in this area is not new; last year, a seller even created their own AI tool to handle initial inquiries from interested buyers. By integrating Meta AI directly into the platform, Facebook is standardizing these capabilities to streamline the selling process.
Why it matters
The update targets the friction of manual communication, aiming to reduce the time sellers spend on redundant inquiries by automating responses and listing creation.
