Clicks Technology launches its first smartphone and new keyboard
Clicks Technology is launching the Communicator, a $499 smartphone for two-phone users, alongside a new $79 slide-out keyboard, with shipping expected later this year.
Clicks Technology, a hardware company known for physical smartphone keyboards, is launching two new devices ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The company is expanding its lineup with its first smartphone, the Communicator, which is priced at $499 and designed to be carried as a second device for work. Alongside the smartphone, Clicks is introducing a new slide-out keyboard priced at $79. The Communicator is built for users who require a dedicated tool for messaging, emailing, and productivity, offering a distraction-free environment without access to addictive social media apps or games. To achieve this, Clicks partnered with Niagara Launcher to provide a streamlined interface focused on tools like Gmail, Telegram, WhatsApp, and Slack.
The Communicator features a physical, touch-sensitive keyboard that allows users to scroll through content without touching the screen. It also includes a customizable “Signal Light” on the side to indicate notifications from specific contacts or apps, and a “Prompt Key” for voice dictation and notes. Clicks is teasing the possibility of integrating AI applications with the Prompt Key, though nothing like that is yet available. The phone is expected to ship sometime later this year. Clicks CEO Adrian Li stated that the market’s response to their previous products “validated something we strongly believed: There’s growing demand for purpose-built products that help people communicate with confidence and take action. Clicks Communicator is a natural evolution of that idea.”
The phone’s technical specifications include:
- Android 16 operating system with five years of security updates
- A 131.5 mm tall body weighing 170 grams
- Global 5G, 4G LTE, and 3G/2G support, unlocked
- A 4,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery
- 256GB of onboard storage, plus expandable microSD storage of up to 2TB
- A 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and a 24MP front camera
- NFC with Google Pay, Bluetooth 5.4, and Wi-Fi 6
- USB-C and wireless charging capabilities
- Interchangeable back covers in Smoke, Clover, and Onyx
Clicks has already shipped more than 100,000 keyboards to customers in over 100 countries. For the new Communicator, the company is offering an early-bird price of $399 for customers who place a $199 deposit before February 27. Meanwhile, the new Power Keyboard—which features a built-in 2,150 mAh battery and connects to devices via MagSafe or Qi2 magnetic charging standards—will retail for $109, with an early-bird price of $79. Preorders for the keyboard start on January 2, with shipping expected in the spring.
Why it matters
Clicks Technology is evolving from a niche accessory maker into a full hardware provider, betting that a segment of power users still demands a dedicated, distraction-free device for work.
