Truecaller hits 500 million monthly active users
Truecaller has reached 500 million monthly active users, with the company now setting its sights on a 1 billion user milestone.
Sweden-based caller ID application Truecaller announced on Tuesday that it has officially reached the milestone of 500 million monthly active users. The milestone represents a significant expansion of the platform’s scale as it continues to build out its communication security services.
The company provided a breakdown of its user growth, noting that its overall user base has doubled in the past five years. In April 2025, Truecaller reported having more than 450 million users, meaning it has continued its upward trajectory into the following year. The company’s current user distribution and subscription metrics include:
- User additions: Truecaller added 50 million users in 2025.
- Indian market: The platform maintains over 350 million monthly users within India, which remains its largest market.
- International expansion: Truecaller has reached 150 million users outside of India.
- Paid tier: More than 4 million people now subscribe to the company’s paid plans.
Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala emphasized that the platform’s growth reflects the scale of the need for help navigating spam and scams. “More and more people need help navigating spam, scams, and unwanted communication every day,” Jhunjhunwala said. He noted that reaching 500 million users demonstrates the scale of that need and the trust users place in the platform to make communication safer. According to Jhunjhunwala, the company is focusing on continuously strengthening Truecaller with smarter technology to protect users, while setting its sights on a future milestone of 1 billion users.
Even as its user base expands, Truecaller faces regulatory and operational hurdles. In India, the company is facing challenges from the country’s Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) system, which displays the name of the caller as registered with their phone networks. At the same time, the company is working to protect users from fraud. This includes testing systems to monitor disconnected calls when words associated with scams are detected, specifically targeting “digital arrest”—a scam tactic where perpetrators impersonate law enforcement officers to extract information or money from call recipients.
Why it matters
Truecaller’s growth highlights the persistent demand for tools that mitigate spam and scams, even as the company navigates regulatory headwinds in its largest market.
